Santander confirms interest in Poland's Kredyt Bank?

Rumors that Spanish lender Santander is in bilateral talks with Belgium's KBC regarding the acquisition of the latter's Polish arm, Kredyt Bank, appear to be true, reported Rzeczpospolita.

“Information that Santander is interested in acquiring banks in Poland is true,” Alfredo Saenz, head of the Spanish bank, has reportedly said.

KBC will now wait till the end of this month for a binding offer from Santander.

“The Spaniards asked for two additional weeks to carry out their analysis, and it is very likely that the Belgians will agree,” an unnamed source close to the negotiations told Rzeczpospolita.
